We know what causes PNES. We know how to treat them. We know there are too few treatment providers. We know that we spend millions of dollars in unnecessary medications. But do we know what to do now?
I do. What I need now is for others to help me bring this solution to all those who need it. I know what to do and all it takes is my personal experience, knowledge and ability and that most precious thing of all – time. Of course what I need in order to gain this time is financial support. And why is time the most important element of the PNES solution? Because I need to personally connect with those who have been newly diagnosed and are confused and afraid. I know what they are going through. I also need to educate the treatment providers as to what PNES do to our lives and what helps to reduce them.
Those who make the PNES diagnosis usually have no personal experience with these seizures. They know what they are but do not live their daily lives with them. I know how to help patients (and treatment providers) understand the PNES challenge. I want to dedicate my life to this.
So what’s it worth? How much money are we willing to spend to help all those with PNES? Do we want to move from interested in solving the problem to committed to solving the problem? I know how to do this. What I need is more time. What I need is a different day job. One that allows me to impact as many lives as I can. I'm working on it. I am preparing to ask for that help.
